An Analysis On The Timesheet Interface

By Cathy Mercer

An interface is the point where the user and the system get to interact. Through this point the user pass some commands to the computer which in turn returns some reasonable amount. An analysis on the timesheet interface shows like any other software interface this is also designed to used some paradigms. These are styles through which the user and the system get to communicate.

Some interaction can get to involve the command line control which is a non interactive style. In this the user gives the system a list of commands that is should do. This application is however very hard and tedious of the common users because it involves the memorizing of command. Thus most people who use it are the system experts who carry out the maintenance procedures.

The style of interactions that are used should be those that are easier for the user to learn. The system designer therefore must avoid the use of the command line style and incorporate all the other styles. These styles include the menu selection, direct manipulation and the graphical display. With the incorporation of all the other styles in the system design the aspect of an overcrowded screen is avoided.

Other marvelous styles that are involved in this system to make it more users friendly include the elimination of duplicated data. Because this software is involved in a lot of purposes, it is very hard to keep a clear record. But with the assistance of the Eliminate duplicated entry style the system gives the user the ability of coming up with accurate data that is used for other purposes. This in addition avoids spending a lot of time is cross checking over the information that is keyed into the system.

A research on the timesheet interface reveals that the system makes use of interaction styles that are much easier for the user. These styles avoid the lot of memorization process that tends to occur with the use of the command line style of interaction. One therefore is given the opportunity of using the recognition ability f the brain instead of the memorizing.

The styles used are more of directive making it easier for even a new user to use the system easily without any trouble. All the information that the end use does not have to deal with is eliminated during the design process. This is avoided by the use f menu bars and direct manipulation styles of interaction. In the menu selection, the choices or options that one needs to check are represented in selectable icons.

When designing this interaction point, one has to therefore employ a lot of measure that will ensue that there are no problems using it. For instance the designer designs a system that makes used of all this styles of interaction. This avoids the exaggeration r overcrowding of the screen. It in addition gives room for even the new user to interact with the system in the easiest way possible.

This system has therefore got much robust functionality as reviled by an analysis on the timesheet interface. It is in addition an easy to use system not only for the staff but even the end users. These users use the system for a couple of minutes each week.
