When it comes to horses, one would have to look far and wide to find a more fantastic animal. They are the most awesome species and many folk all over the world admire them for their majestic natures. These animals are simply awesome and when it comes to breeding them one is in awe of them as they grow up. Colt starting is one of the most challenging things that you can take on.

When you find out your mare is pregnant it is very exciting. The idea of having another baby in the barn is fantastic and everyone looks forward to the day he is born. Pregnancy is a tricky time for the mare and you should see to it that she gets all the supplements she needs for the baby to be healthy when he is born.

The day he is born will be one of lots of anxiety as it is important that he is healthy and strong. When he finally arrives he will be a little shaky but soon find his legs and begin to suckle. The important thing is to keep both mom and baby strong and healthy. One should begin with supplementation as soon as possible, even while the mare is in foal. This is important so that both of them stay strong.

As he grows older he will no doubt turn into a beautiful horse who will be pampered and loved by all who meet him. Early contact with human is vital if you intend to train him for riding in any discipline. The more you have to do with him the better as this way he will not be afraid of you when the time comes for him to begin full training.

Depending on the discipline you intend for him to follow you will want to begin encouraging the basics at an early stage. This way he will become aware of your demands and learn quickly. The more he has to do with you the better as he will become used to the idea that you not only are going to be training him, but also rewarding him when he is good at something.

One needs to start familiarizing him with things early on in his life and make sure that he is used to human contact from as early as possible. This way you will gain his trust and allow you to train him. The more comfortable he is with you the easier it will be to train him.

Of course when you begin training, you do not want to subject him to too many gadgets and tack so the less you do to him the better. Simple voice training in the beginning is advisable and only at a later stage should you try to put him onto a lead rein. Once he is comfortable with this you can then later put him into a bitless bridle.

The idea of a bitless bridle is very popular these days and many equestrian federations are trying to encourage this new idea. If you are able to do this you will be doing your baby a great favor as they do not need these devices if you know what you are doing. Colt starting can be done with minimal amounts of discipline and few training devices.
