The Existence Of Faith Based Lending

By Lila Berger

There are many consumers that enjoy doing business with people of like faith. It is something that encompasses all areas of their life, especially if they consider themselves to be firm in their beliefs. When it comes down to their financial dealings, it is especially true. Thus, when it comes to faith based lending it would be natural for one to use this type of service.

Actually lending of this sort is no different than other types of lending. In fact, the requirements and guidelines are identical in most cases. The biggest difference can be found in the way a particular business or service is marketed. Generally the difference here is in the verbiage used to connect the consumers personal beliefs to that of the business.

Although a business may target a particular segment in the market, laws exist which do not allow businesses to discriminate. Thus, they must provide their services to the general public or anyone that desires and can pay for the service. They are able to market to them exclusively as long as they are open to providing services to all.

There are many different reasons behind why an owner would want to target this market segment. It could be due to having a bad experience personally and their desire to ensure others have a good experience. They may have seen a need in their community and just want to fill it. Then again, it may be that they have a desire to share their belief while providing a needed service, thinking that they could actually make a difference.

Obviously these business owners are devout enough in their beliefs that they have no problem putting their beliefs out there. It is a bold statement they make when they market to this group of people. Owners that enter this market feel it is a benefit in some way and are normally proud to share their faith.

There are specific marketing avenues designed specifically for businesses as well as consumers looking to connect on a business level. Whether it is a newsletter, brochure, or directory, one can find many businesses catering to this niche. These businesses run the gamut from babysitting to financing.

When marketing their business or service, the owner will generally include sayings or a popular scripture that resonates with the consumer. This is included to snag or hook the consumer who they believe will relate to it and begin doing business with them. It makes the customer more comfortable when they are desiring to conduct business with others of like faith.

Regardless of the type of business that is established as a faith based one, the notion that they are ethical and honest are attached to it. This is the primary reason that faith based lending is a popular choice. This is especially true when considering mortgages or loans when high ethical standards are often questioned. Using the services of someone that is in this particular group of businesses provides a sort of assurance or confidence for the consumer.
