The Protective Group: Could Wrestling Backgrounds Help?

By Rob Sutter

The Protective Group may be ones which exudes physicality alone but this isn't entirely true. Yes, you have to be fit in order to become part of said group but to say that it's the only element to consider would be nothing short of a lie. There are others which can make some of the best workers imaginable. For example, wrestlers may be some of the ideal candidates from a strength-related standpoint but that isn't the only quality that they should possess, as there are others to come into play.

This isn't to say that The Protective Group will shy away from those who can prove themselves in any physical regimen, since it's going to be needed in order to keep matters under control. Companies like T.P.G. have been part of a number of events in the past, each of them possessing varying types of guests. As a result, you have to be on your toes at all times and make sure that your awareness is at a high level. These aspects come into the picture in order to keep everything under control.

This may not be the first subject one would link to wrestling but a comparison could be drawn. Keep in mind that wrestlers have to possess strength in a number of fashions, not simply that which entails brute force. CM Punk, to name one example, has been successfully partially because of his knowledge of the ring. He has been able to implement this kind of intelligence along with his physicality; I believe that this tandem has aided him in reaching new levels of success.

Triple H is another individual who should be referenced, since it seems like he understands wrestling more than most others. He has an extensive amount of knowledge on the matter and I believe that his ability to work in the ring has proven itself countless times. I believe that this kind of mindset can help others as well, especially if this was their first time in a business involving security. Seeing as how there are a number of layers, I believe it could come into play.

As you can tell, not every in-ring competitor is going to theoretically work within The Protective Group and there are reasons for this. This isn't necessarily a slight to them but rather an indication of just what is required in order to perform in said group. There are workers which must possess a number of qualities, each of them vital in order to perform well. For a number of events which require security, it's clear that more than just one element comes into the picture.
