Internet marketing is a must for any business that really wants to grow and thrive in today's competitive marketplace. More and more customers are conducting their business online, so if you want to attract new customers and retain your existing ones, you need to make sure that you have a visible online presence.

Because of this, you need to invest a lot of time and energy into Internet marketing. If you do not, you run the risk of losing your customers to your competition. However, there are good and bad ways to market your business online.

Sometimes however it is easier to create this "viral" reaction if you focuses yourself on a sub-segment of a niche, rather than the broader niche as a whole. For example if your niche is "dieting" it can be somewhat difficult to really judge what the end goal of a web searcher actually is. You can generically say that they are trying to lose weight, but a woman trying to lose weight so she can fit into a pair of skinny jeans is not the same market segment as an overweight man who is trying to lose weight so he can show of his muscles.

Because of this, the first page is highly desirable real estate. If you can make sure that your website is on that first page, and preferably towards the top, you will get a lot more traffic. SEO techniques are designed to make sure that your site appears towards the top.

Do not send out too many messages. Email is so easy to send that it is easy to succumb to the temptation to send out dozens of messages per day. However, think of this from the customer's point of view. Would you really want to get so many messages from a single company, or would you just end up deleting them?

Once you have a buzz going you must be able deliver solid free content to the subscribers that you are marketing too. If the free content is good it will actually generate even more of a buzz that will explode your list building efforts.
